It's about time they found the crew. To echo what has been said already, I hope the relatives can now finally get some closure after all this time.

This particular story has been a hot potato now for many years, it has been well documented that these Trawlers were spying on behalf of the British government, and very many people believe that the Russians had something to do with the sinking of the Gaul,,,,,, we will see !!!!

I am not from Hull, but I know the basic story, I may be wrong but wasn't there a a story a while ago that some of the crew had actually been taken off and where in Russia somewhere?

.... very many people believe that the Russians had something to do with the sinking of the Gaul,,,,,, we will see !!!!

One theory is that the nets were caught around a huge submarine ... and it was dragged under without any time to send out a distress call
... but if that was the case I don't suppose we will ever know if it was Russian, American or ........ BRITISH!

But she was not fishing (no nets out) at the time she sank ... so that myth is sunk ... the most likely cause of the loss is in the link below

Loadsa theories which are probably all blx - The spying bit may be true
but the wreck of the Gaul was examined in 2002 - hatches open 4 bodies found
looks probable sunk by freak wave etc see below re enquiry in 2004 but will we ever know the truth.
The soviets were bad bastards (& charisma's Heroes) in those days so they could have been involved.
